A ECONOMIC POPULIST FOR A CHANGE

Medicare for All

New Mexico voters consistently say the cost of living is their top concern, with healthcare costs leading those concerns. Medicare for All, which Tom has supported for over 40 years, would provide all Americans with free healthcare at the point of service. A recent survey by Data for Progress finds that 65% of voters support a national health insurance program that would cover all Americans, this includes 78% of Democrats, 71% of Independents, and 49% of Republicans.

Economic Inequality

For decades Tom has advocated for a wealth tax on the assets owned by billionaries. A 10% yearly wealth tax on those assets would bring the U.S. Treasury biilions in added revenue each year. For example, if Elon Musk was taxed on the assets he owned in 2025, which Forbes estimates were valued at $749 billion, he'd pay $74, 900 billion in taxes for 2025.

"The Miltary Budget

Our military budget is the largest portion of the discretionary federal budget and the most recent budget Congress passed was over $900 billion. Over 60 years ago in his farewell address to the country President  Eisenhower stated, "To amass military power without regard to our economic capacity would be to defend ourselves against one kind of disaster by inviting another." He also said,
"That ever gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
